Our third Autumn Amble took place at the weekend and again the sun shone for us! With over 20 pre-war cars and their enthusiastic passengers, a terrific day was had by all.
As with all our events, the highlight of the day was the range of cars gathered together. From a 1911 Lanchester that has been undergoing a complete restoration within our workshops (and is still only ¾ complete), through to a stunning selection of Silver Ghosts and vintage Bentleys, the line up of cars was spectacular.
This year’s route ambled through the beautiful Stour Valley onwards towards the stunning Suffolk Wool villages. The route was anything but easy, especially the first half, as we challenged our drivers with single-track lanes and lots of tight, twisty roads. From the reactions of our guests, it proved to be an enjoyable task! This was not the only excitement of the day – we drove through a fantastic ford close to Arger Fen Nature Reserve and another at Kersey. We also enjoyed a super coffee stop at the Assington Country Kitchen and relaxed for a marvellous lunch at the picturesque Bildeston Crown in Suffolk.
Our afternoon stop off was at the wonderful Melford Hall. There is nothing quite like a line up of pre-war cars gracing the walls of a historic 16th Century house. Our guests enjoyed the opportunity of looking around the hall, and soaking up the atmosphere of a home that once welcomed Queen Elizabeth I and Beatrix Potter among its visitors.
The cars, the route and the weather made it an extremely enjoyable day, but the ‘cherry on the top’ was being amongst fabulous company. The drivers and their passengers brought such positivity and excitement, and the shared enthusiasm for vintage motoring could be felt by everyone that attended.
