• Attractive airline coupe coachwork
• Current family ownership for 45 years
• Highly original and well-maintained car
Chassis number B138 HK is a highly attractive airline sports saloon with coachwork by Windovers. Windovers were a very highly regarded coachbuilder who produced some stunning designs and whose coachwork was often favoured by the Indian Maharajah, as evident from the styling of this car. Being a 4 ¼ litre, this car offers an improved power output and refinement over a 3 ½ litre and drives very well indeed.
Completed on the 21st October 1936, and supplied to Mrs Jarrett, the car would have been very striking indeed. Having been in the present family ownership, since 1974, this is the first time B138 HK has been on the open market in 45 years. It is believed the speedometer reading of 85,062 miles is likely to be the correct mileage from new.
The car is today finished in an attractive blue. The wings have recently been refinished, and the body is in very sound order. Some of the trim is original, however, the seats have been refinished in vinyl many years ago. The dash is attractive and well finished.
Whilst in the present family ownership, B138 HK has been subject to a huge amount of work by reputable marque experts. Brunts of Silverdale carried out a complete engine rebuild, a rewire with new prop-shaft, rear hubs and road wheels in the mid 1990’s.
In 2009 – 2010, Calvert-Wells & Company Ltd carried out a full front axle and front suspension overhaul. Steering tubes were overhauled, the engine bay was detailed. The carburettors and water pump were overhauled. A new exhaust system was fitted. The rear axle and rear suspension were overhauled. Brakes serviced and brake servo overhauled. All tyres were renewed.
At this time, the following coachwork was also carried out; weld repairs and bare metal respray to front wings and running boards. A complete new ash frame was manufactured to rear window and boot areas. Repairs to panel work and boot floor were made and the rear of the car was repainted.
B138 HK is a very well-maintained car, having been serviced every two years since 2010. Accompanying the car is an extensive history file.
