RREC Annual Rally 2024

It was a pleasure to take part in this year’s RREC Annual Rally. As always, there was an impressive selection of Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars spanning all eras, and the backdrop of the stunning Burghley House provided the perfect setting for a fabulous gathering.

This year our team travelled to the event in a convoy of three special Silver Ghosts which added to the fun of the day.  We took along a 1911 Silver Ghost Tourer, a 1913 Silver Ghost Landaulette and a 1920 Alpine Eagle – a great display of the evolution of Ghosts in itself.

The 1911 Tourer (chassis no. 1606)  is a glorious Ghost offering the epitome of Edwardian driving with its parallel bonnet, gleaming brass bright-work and handsome coachwork. It was fully restored in the 1990s so presents beautifully and has been extensively toured across Europe, America and Australia.  Its most recent achievement was the 2023 Alpine Tour hosted by The 20-Ghost Club.

The grand 1913 Ghost with wonderful Barker Landaulette coachwork is like no other. It is a completely original and unrestored car and presents in an incredibly well-preserved condition.  The trip presented a rare opportunity to tour a formal car of this age and we were amazed how well it kept pace alongside the other more sporting Ghosts.

The 1920 Alpine Eagle is an exemplary and unique car, having the ultimate specification combined with remarkable history and provenance, and remaining completely original.  It is believed to have covered only 65,000 miles from new. It was a privilege to drive this.

The day finished off in celebration with two of our customers receiving awards for their cars. A 1923 Rolls-Royce 20 was deservedly awarded first prize in the Conservation Class, and a 1933 Rolls-Royce 20/25 with coachwork by Graber won the top prize of ‘Best in Show’. This was an absolute delight for the owner, Steve Horne, who has recently acquired the car via ourselves after seeking to own it for a number of years.
