This year’s Festival of Speed’s Cartier et Luxe Concours marked the centenary of the Rolls-Royce Phantom, with a class of six fantastic Phantom Is on display.
We were delighted to assist in bringing together three clients’ cars for the event, including a car known as ‘The Black Diamond’ and originally owned by Otto Oppenheimer, the diamond magnate. This striking car, carrying Sportsman Saloon coachwork by Hooper, went on to be awarded Best in Show. The judges were impressed by the car’s original and atmospheric interior (reminiscent of a gentleman’s smoking club) and the countless accessories the car carries. Congratulations to the car’s owners for the well-deserved win.
We were pleased to also have attending two other Phantom Is that we have looked after for a number of years. The famous ‘Phantom of Love’, arguably one of the most famous Rolls-Royces in the world, took pride of place on the lawn and impressed onlookers with its fabulous Sistine Chapel inspired interior; and the glorious ex-Maharajah of Udaipur 1927 Hooper Tourer caught people’s eye with its twin Grebel searchlights, custom gun-rack in the back and period pith helmets. A highly original car, this grand tourer was historically used for ceremonial duties in Rajasthan, and over the past 98 years has clocked up just 25,000 miles in three families’ ownership.
The line up of Phantoms was highly impressive with each one deserving recognition. Congratulations to the Cartier et Luxe team for creating such a fabulous display and congratulations to all the owners who took part.
